Stuttering in the Real World Screener

Welcome

Thank you for considering participation in the "Stuttering in the Real World" study, which is funded by the National Institutes of Health, is directed by Dr. J. Scott Yaruss, Professor of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at Michigan State University (jsy@msu.edu).

Study Details

Our goal is to gain insights into how stuttering affects individuals in their daily lives. To achieve this, we plan to record audio of participants' speech throughout their day-to-day activities. First, we'll conduct an initial interview to learn more about your speech and stuttering patterns. Following this, you'll receive a compact microphone and a small recorder through the mail. We ask that you wear this microphone for a continuous period of seven days, during which it will capture both your speech and the surrounding sounds. We consider your privacy and the privacy of people you speak with to be of utmost importance. You'll have the capability to stop the recording at any time, and you are not expected to wear the microphone during sleeping hours, long periods of silence, or other times it may not be possible. Once the recording phase concludes, we'll organize a debriefing session to talk about your experience during the study.

It's important to note that this study is available only to residents of certain U.S. states, in line with local laws regarding recording consent.

Participants in this study will be compensated for participation in this study via an Amazon or Visa E-Gift Card.
